Electives
The afternoons at Lote Tree are parent/volunteer led. We have a wide array of Islamic as well as recreational electives that keep students enthusiastically engaged in the second part of their day.
After lunch/recess, the students pray Dhuhr prayer together and collectively read a 10 minute spiritual remembrance (dhikr) from the prophetic invocations. After than an adult reads a short Islamic lesson (Shamail of the Prophet, story based on hadith, etc.) for students before they go to classes.
This year (2024-25) we have streamlined to one elective rather than two in the afternoons so that we end our day earlier since many of our families have after school activities. The elective time is 2:00-2:45pm and clean jobs are 2:45-3:00pm.

Tuesday is Quran elective. Younger students learn all the steps of the prayer, juz amma surahs, along with the tafsir (meaning) and vocabulary of some of the short most commonly recited surahs. Older students take part in a more rigorous study of Quran vocabulary meaning, Arabic writing of surahs/vocabulary, and tafsir study of surahs studied.
Wednesdays are 6 week unit studies which include Art, and various rotational electives such as International Cooking, Community Service, Book Publishing, Tennis, Woodshop, etc.
Thursdays is Islamic Studies. Students learn core concepts of Islam using text books, Quran, and Hadith.
